SAMAM
Hand-drawn and hand-tufted rug (120 × 60 cm), self-portrait outfit (size 122), wall hanging with Year 4 pupils (180 × 50 cm) made with wet-felted tiles.

Together with my son Sam (then seven years old), I designed and made a series of works that neither of us could have created on our own. As we worked, we talked about authorship. Who is the artist? The designer or the maker? The person who conceives the idea, or the one who brings it into being?

Like the other works in The Ten Thousand Things, these pieces also emerged from an encounter between two generations. The difference is that they do not look back, but forward.

From that same question, we developed an educational project for his Year 4 class at the Jozefschool in Weesp. Together with his classmates, we designed and made a wall hanging of wet-felted tiles, as well as a series of garments.
